FRONTIER TOWN: A TENT CAMP FOR CHILDREN IN THE URBAN WILD

@ DLectricity 2012

A circle of glowing tents in the wide-open urban prairie, invite children (and kids at heart) to explore the magical shelter of light and fabric. On the scale of the site, lights form large geometries, outlining a place as a beacon for gathering and wonder.

Hand-made, battery-powered luminaires are whimsical interpretations of overhead ‘power lines’ and ‘firefly traps.’ On the scale of the shelter, lights inside the tents create individual, magical spaces. Flashlights, shadow puppets and light collages with unique narrative frameworks encourage a playful and participatory personal experience within.
